Trip Map
This overnighter was designed to be an easy going, first of the
season "Dad, lad and puppy dog trip. It was not designed to
be rugged for
that
issue alone, but as will happen in the unexplored and unfamiliar
wilderness, things change. This trip featured all the fun stuff like
iffy trail navigation, high water crossings, and a late Spring snow
that brings out the explorer in all of us.
Abes Lake on a frosty late Spring morning with the Western half of
Notch mountain in the background.
Ditto, different direction.

And yet another view of Abes lake.

Nice campsite where the lesson of not leaving
out your butane stove out over night in the elements was learned. When cold and wet
butane stoves have a much harder time getting lit. Had to completely
dry
our stove to get it to work. Now it stays with me in the tent.

This is me profiling like I'm some sort of world famous trekker.

Man and beastie, a finer combination I cannot think
of.

Son, Travis doing a bit of fishing.

Travis preparing for a early season stream crossing. After much
explanation and review of proper technique by myself to my young
inexperienced, but eager student, I crossed first to demonstrate
my mastery of river crossing. Four steps out into the stream and
I fell on my ass much to the glee of both boy and dog. Lesson
Learned: Buy and bring stream crossing footgear (i.e. sandals or
aqua socks)
if you are going to cross streams.
